Test details and Preparations

Please go through the following guidelines before you take a Test:

Fasting Plasma Glucose:

  • Fasting period of 10-12 hrs required.
  • Collect first voided mid-stream morning urine for urine glucose.

Post Prandial Plasma Glucose:

  • Blood and urine specimens collected 2 hrs after completion of meals.

Lipid Profile

  • 12-14 hours of fasting required

24 Hours Urine Collection

  • Do not discard the preservative in the container
  • Discard the first urine passed in the morning. Note down the exact time (for e.g. 7.00 am).
  • From this time onwards collect all subsequent urine samples in the container provided. Collection should be continued till same time next day (for e.g. 7.00 am). This is the 24 hrs. urine sample.
  • Urine must be voided directly into the container.
  • Also return the 24 hrs. urine sample container within 1 hr. to the centre.

Urine Collection for Urine Routine:

  • Urine must be voided directly into the container.
  • During the collection, the initial portion of the urine stream should be allowed to escape while the midstream portion must be collected.

Urine collection for microbiological testing:

  • First morning midstream urine is the ideal specimen for microbiological testing
  • But in case of urgency random urine specimen can be collected.
  • Collect 50-mL of first morning midstream urine specimen in a sterile leak-proof container.
  • Use clean catch technique for urine specimen collection (Clean the urethral surface, open the sterile container just prior to passing urine. Let some urine pass and there after collect the midstream specimen directly into the container. Close the container immediately.)

Sputum Collection:

  • Thoroughly rinse mouth by using water before expressing specimen.
  • The sputum must be coughed up from the lungs or bronchi and placed in the sterile plastic container.
  • The container has to be recapped immediately and secured tightly.
